Moeller Basketball Preview

As the Moeller basketball team gets ready for the upcoming season, they have been preparing with skill workouts and lifting during the months of April and May, then scrimmages all throughout June, then skills and lifting from July to the end of October. The season is less than two weeks away and the Crusaders are getting ready for the first game of the season against Chaminade Juliene from Dayton. Basketball plays a touch schedule this year, facing teams like Centerville, St. Ignatius, and Covington Catholic. Every year the team goes on a trip during Christmas break to play in a tournament, this year the team is heading down to Myrtle Beach where they will play a handful of the best teams from different states. Moeller basketball plays Great Crossing High School, led by 7’1” Malachi Moreno who recently committed to the University of Kentucky.

Returning to the team from last year are nine seniors and one junior, with a lot of new faces coming up from last year’s JV team. This year’s team will have a lot of experience because of the number of upperclassmen that will be on the team. Last year’s team had four seniors in the starting lineup, two of which went on to play at division one schools and one playing NAIA. As hard as it is to replace four players like that, the team is reloaded with multiple division 1 and 2 talents.

This team can make a deep run in the playoffs this year and will definitely be a contender for a state title this year. Last year the team had a heartbreaking double overtime loss to Centerville in the regional finals with the score being 70-69. This year’s tough schedule will challenge them and prepare the team for the state tournament. The class of 2025 won sixty games in a row from freshman to junior year. Being one of the best classes in Moeller history based on record, this team will be strong due to the nine players from the class of 2025 and players from the 2026 class. Expect Moeller basketball to go far in the state tournament this year and win a lot of games.
