Tua Concussion Scare
Tua Tagovailoa had a scary collision last night during Thursday Night Football. It was 4th and 4 with 4:37 left in the 3rd quarter with the Dolphins in scoring position, when suddenly, Tua Tagovailoa decided to scramble as the pocket collapsed, taking an awkward hit. Tua was on the ground for 2 minutes before getting up and heading to the tunnel. He finished the game with 67% accuracy, 145 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT, before being taken out of the game due to his injury.
The injury Tua Tagovailoa suffered from was a concussion. A concussion is a brain injury caused by a blow to the head or a violent shaking of the head and body. However, this isn’t the first time Tua Tagovailoa has experienced a concussion. In fact, over the last 3 seasons Tua has been diagnosed with 3 confirmed concussions. 2 being during the 2022 season. This can be dangerous for the Miami quarterback because if you continue to have concussions it can eventually lead to chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE. CTE is linked to repeated head injuries and blows to the head and can eventually cause dementia, or even death.
It seems like Tua cannot escape concussions. Tua Tagovailoa has even considered retirement due to a scary season with concussions back in 2022. He was talking with some reporters after the 2022 season was over and said, “Yeah, I think I considered it for a time.” Tua has even gone to greater measures with a jiujitsu breakfall program to learn how to fall without hitting his head on the ground. It could be time for Tua to start thinking about his health and think long term about his future.
