Juan Soto deal
Juan Soto is one of the best current players in the MLB. Winning the World Series at only 19 with the Washington Nationals. Just recently Juan signed with the New York Mets for $765 million over 15 years with escalators to increase the value to roughly $800 million when it is all said and done.
The New York Yankees, were the runners-up in the most anticipated signing of the offseason. Their final offer was 16 years and $760 million. At first, it appeared that Soto went to the Mets for the extra $5 million, but its more complicated to that. It was unclear if the Yankees would have offered a signing bonus at all. Getting $75 million up sooner rather than later, its not clear how and when all of Soto’s signing bonus will get paid.
Soto’s deal is a bit front loaded, and he is set to make $305 million in the first five seasons before the opt out comes up. In the end, Soto could be looking at $800 million from the Mets over 15 years that includes a $75 million signing bonus vs. $760 million from the Yankees over 16 years without bonus.
In my opinion, I think Soto should have stayed with the Yankees. Despite money, the Yankees are notorious for having power hitting left handed hitters due to right field being so short. This makes it a hitter friendly ballpark for a guy like Soto in which he could perform to max capacity. Both are great organizations but last year the Yankees were a World Series team vs. the Mets lost in the NLCS to the Dodgers.
