Student Athlete Spotlight: Kyle Havens

The Moeller basketball team won its first game in the state tournament on Thursday, February 22nd against Talawanda, 73-36. The team is looking to play seven more matches in the tournament on their run to be crowned Division 1 State Champions. With a record of 22-1, the basketball program is having one of the most successful years in recent history.

The Crusader had the opportunity to discuss the season and its possible future with starting guard Kyle Havens. Havens has been involved in the basketball program all four years of his high school career, playing varsity for three of those years.

Crusader: How would you describe what this season has meant to you?

Havens: It’s been very important to me being my last year; it’s my last time to go out and show what I can do and what this program means to me. I want it to be a very memorable season and reminisce about it with my teammates.

Crusader: What is your favorite Moeller Basketball memory?

Havens: There’s been a lot. A couple are beating St. X at the buzzer my sophomore year, winning our Christmas tournament in Atlanta, and winning the GCL outright this season.

Crusader: What’s made this season so special compared to past years?

Havens: Knowing the expectations we’ve had this year and rising up to the occasion. We knew we were going to be really good, and we have proven that.

Crusader: Lastly, how meaningful would it be to end your basketball career with a ring at the end of this season?

Havens: It would be amazing. I think it would be an unforgettable moment that people would talk about for years to come.

Thank you to Kyle Havens for taking the time to talk with The Crusader! Good luck to the Moeller Basketball team as they continue their state tournament run!
