Will Wins BIG
It has been a long and difficult season for our wrestling Crusaders, with many ups and downs throughout. But through consistency and constant drive, they secured an amazing season this year. With many placers and 10 qualifiers, this is one for the books. One wrestler rose to the occasion and finished the job: Will Adkins, Moeller’s first state champion in wrestling since Jake Thompson in 2017. Will is also Coach Germaine Lindsey’s second state champion in his coaching career.
Seeing one of our classmates win a state championship is truly incredible, especially after a year of surprises and big wins in other sports but still not getting it done. Everyone at Moeller can now take a deep breath; we now have two state champions on record: first Will, then Dana Walker for track. Will Adkins achieved one of the biggest feats, not only in Ohio but also in the country. Ohio is a notoriously difficult state to be a wrestler in, rivaled only by Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Grit—this took grit. In the midpoint of the season, Will suffered a scary knee injury, leading to much concern among our team. He stuck to it, though, through prayer, therapy, and trusting himself and our coaches. He pulled out the victory in overtime, scoring the final points necessary to win. Mr. Nelson says, “What Will Adkins and this group of seniors has done; you guys brought Moeller Wrestling back onto the map.”
