2024-2025 Volleyball Season Preview
Last season, the Moeller Volleyball finished the season 19-5 and made it to the Regional Finals. Some notable wins the Crusaders had were against Elder, La Salle, and Alter. These teams were big wins because they defeated two GCL teams and a solid Alter team. Led by Tyler Geselbracht, the Crusaders were hoping to make a run for state once again. On their trip to the Regional Finals, the Volleyball team defeated Princeton, Loveland, and La Salle, winning all three sets each game. The Crusaders fell short of the state semifinals, losing to the team on South Bend Road.
This year, The Crusaders are expecting big things in their pursuit for another state championship. Parker Cianciolo and I got to talk to the head coach with him saying, “As far as an outlook on the season, we are returning a strong group of seniors to varsity with a large number of juniors who will be looking to fill key positions. We do have the talent to do well this season and make a strong run in the state tournament. Our key games this year will be all of our games against our GCL opponents as well as against McNick on 3/29 as they won state last year and only graduated one senior.”
The returning players are Matthew Klenier, Danny McAneny, Kaleb Vanden Eynden, Tyler Wong ‘26, Daniel Mack, Rowan Todd, William Sauer, Will Bimonte. New players are juniors Nick Dollard, Carson Nahrup , Connor smith, Adam Quehl, Sam Martin, Leo Tierney, Alex Sherman, Drew Ewers, Elvis Arvay, and Kyle Whitley with Sean Smith and Luca Nebadze as manager. The team this year is strong and competitive, looking to get back to the state finals with seniors Will Sauer and Daniel Mack leading the team. The Crusader was lucky enough to interview senior Will Sauer about the upcoming season for the Volleyball team.
The Crusader: What are your thoughts about the upcoming season?
Sauer: “We’re a young and hungry team, looking forward to the season. Our practices have been great, and we are ready to prove that we are coming for everyone around the state.”
The Crusader: What are the team’s strengths that you plan to show throughout the season?
Sauer: “Our strengths are definitely our defense and work ethic. We have a strong and competitive team this year, looking to get back to state.”
The Crusader: With the absence of Josh Molina, how will you guys move past that?
Sauer: “Josh was a huge loss to the team, and we will miss him tremendously. He was a great locker guy and brought energy and liveliness, working hard every day at what he did to help the team.”
The Crusader: What is the team’s ultimate goal for this upcoming season?
Sauer: “Obviously we want to win state and bring home another trophy to the Moeller community. We also want to compete this year for the GCL, beating St. X twice. We want to improve every day at what we do and continue to get better as a team.”
The Crusader thanks Will Sauer for the interview and we wish him and the Volleyball team on their upcoming season. His dedication and passion for the sport are truly inspiring, and we look forward to seeing how the team continues to grow and succeed. As the season unfolds, we wish Will and the entire volleyball team the best of luck in their games, striving for both personal and collective victories. With the hope of getting back to state and winning the GCL, there is no doubt that there are exciting things ahead for this hungry and young team.
