Moeller Basketball Recap

The 2025 Moeller Basketball team came to an unfortunate ending Wednesday, February 26, playing against a tough Sycamore team. Overall, the Crusaders had a solid season, finishing 3rd in the GCL, with a record of 17-6. The Moeller basketball team was led by seniors; Jake Bell, Alex Kazanecki, Zach Green, Griffin Mitchell, Kingston Land, Brady Franz, Colson Krebs, Glen Kitchen, and student managers Jordan Brown, Carson Todd, and Joey Kobos. Featuring a few awards, going to Alex Kazanecki (first team), Zach Green (second team), and Brady Franz (second team). It was hard to follow the excellent season they hard the year before, but this team was able to hold their own—with notable wins against Covington Catholic, Elder, and Centerville. Jake Bell says, “We had a fun season with many memorable moments, great experience being able to play with all his friends despite the hardships they had to go through.” Although their season ended abruptly, the team still holds their head high because they know they gave it there all this year. As the season progressed there were many ups and downs, gaining lots of momentum toward the start of the season, then slowly came to a halt with losses to St. Xavier, Elder, and St. Ignatius. On Tuesday, January 14, the Elder Panthers hosted the Crusaders and absolutely dominated. Leaving the Moeller community in shock and unsure how legitimate this Moeller team could be. They then preceded to go on a cold streak losing to St. Xavier on January 17, and St. Ignatius on January 19. This Moeller team was in shambles, but with the guidance of Coach Kremer and the leadership of the senior class they were able to string some games together to be playoff ready. Yet, they caught the Sycamore Aviators on a bad night. Sycamore knocks out Moeller in the first round, resulting in the end of Moeller’s season. Despite the elimination, coaches and returning players are ecstatic to get back to next season to take care of the unfinished business. With returning players like Cooper McCutchan and Danny Kelley, the program is definitely in good hands. Coach Flip had optimistic outlook on the season, saying “The boys battled hard, yet couldn’t get the job finished. Couldn’t be prouder of these boys and the effort they put into this season.” Although the season didn’t end the way the Crusaders had hoped, they can take pride in their resilience and the memorable moments they created along the way. The leadership of the senior class and the guidance of the coaching staff helped the team overcome adversity and compete at a high level. With key returning players and a determined mindset, Moeller basketball looks forward to coming back stronger next season to finish what they started.
