Moeller Soccer Making Run Back To State
Moeller Soccer may not look like it has in the recent past. But do not overlook them as they begin to set their sights on the state tournament. They might not have all the skills of the past, but their grit is like no other.
Four years ago, Moeller was one of the best soccer teams in the country. They do not have the same players now, but the upperclassmen remember what it looks like to be the best. They were freshmen at the time when they had that team, but their leadership roles play a big part in how this team achieves big things. When the seniors were freshmen, they were able to watch the number 2 ranked team in the country make a run in the tournament.
A strong core of the senior captains looks to lead their team through the tournament. With their leadership they should be able to hold their composure under pressure. Seniors Beson Rhoades, Alex Cortez, Jayden Fernandez, Bentley Tepe, and Liam Breidenbach provide a strong corner stone of leadership for the state run they’re going to make.
They are a strong defensive team, which will help give them that edge on opponents that they are playing throughout their tournament run. Through twelve games they have held their opponents to one or less goals in 8 of them. As goals are harder to come by in playoffs it benefits Moeller team a ton.
Many players are coming off injury right now. According to a captain of the soccer team, Benson Rhoads,’27, "with our injured players returning we look to we will start scoring more goals again." Injuries have been an issue as of late. As these players return Moeller soccer looks to get hot at the perfect time right before the playoffs.
Moeller may not look as strong as it has been recently this year. Though, you cannot forget about them as things begin to line up for a deep playoff run.
