Lacrosse Preview

As the weather warms and spring arrives, Moeller’s outdoor sports are back in full swing. There are high hopes for baseball, track, tennis, and lacrosse. The lacrosse team is looking to return to a successful season and make a run at the state championship. Senior leadership as well as a talented underclass, will help Moeller Lacrosse become a powerhouse once again.

Last year Moeller Lacrosse was a highly anticipated contender for state, but the season did not pan out the way they wanted it to. The talent was there but the injury and misfortune for the team highlighted the season. Several talented freshmen made varsity and were early contributors to the program such as Chase Novak, Wyatt Brotherton, Gavin Daud and Noah Hamre. This benefited the team and set the foundation for years to come. We also interviewed Simon Klaber to talk about the change in leadership saying, “there are several more leaders this year all looking for the betterment of the team”. And with the young talent he “became a leader for the underclassmen”, which is super important to build the lacrosse culture.

Moeller Lacrosse players have been dedicated to the weightroom and box lacrosse since the beginning of the school year. After the disappointing season last year there has been a fire inside each one of the players. Also, there has been a turn towards faith and the importance of it in our lives and our athletics. Student Athlete run Bible Study has been ran for several months now and most of the team participates. Klaber talks about the importance of Bible study and how “it brings the team closer in faith and togetherness”.

This new dedication has many people excited about what Moeller Lacrosse might do this season. After going 2-1 in scrimmages, the Crusaders gear up to play Worthington Kilbourne in a barn burner after last year’s tight game. Moeller also looks to capitalize on teams around the region such as Milford, Mason and Loveland. But the game everyone is excited to watch is Moeller Vs. St X. The game will take place at Moeller on April 28th and will give the Crusaders an opportunity to beat St. X for the first time in 3 years. As the season starts, only time will tell if Moeller Lacrosse can capitalize on an opportunity of a lifetime.
