The Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a very shaky start to their 2025-26 season. At least it could be called shaky since they finished 64-18 last year and earned the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. They have the current record of 29-20 and are in fifth place in the conference. They are also on a current five game winning streak, really starting to catch their stride now. Really the biggest step back that they have had this season is on the defensive side of the ball.
This lack of defense I think could be due to a lot of injuries that they have had this season. The reigning defensive player of the year, Evan Mobley, is currently hurt and is expected to be out for another week. The starting point guard, Darius Garland, has been hurt for most of the year and has been floating in and out of the lineup. Another injury that they have is with their glue guy, Max Strus. He has been out the whole season with an injury. He is a very good hustle player, an extremely reliable shooter, and one heck of a perimeter defender.
Now let’s turn to the bright side: the offense. In my opinion, and by what statistics show, the Cavs have one of the best offenses in the whole NBA. This is the main reason why they have been able to stay pretty good this season. The offense is led by who I think is a top three guard in the league Donovan Mitchell. He is currently averaging 29.4ppg, 5rpg, and 6apg. This is why I think that he is one of the best. He is the best player on one of the best offenses in the league. I think that he was snubbed of an NBA All-Star start this year. The offense is also anchored by Evan Mobley is continuing to grow and becoming one of the best post players in the league. He averages 17.9ppg, 9rpg, and 4apg.
All in all, I think that although the Cleveland Cavaliers had a rocky start to the season, they are finally catching their stride, becoming one of the best teams in the league. Once they get all of their key players back from injury, I think that there could be an argument that they are the best team in the league. If they get the defense fixed up a little bit, they are definitely a title contender this year.
