New Coach Spotlight: Dom Denoma

When it comes to the renowned history of the Moeller athletics, you might think about the many basketball state championships led by Carl Kramer, or the National Championships won by legendary coach Gerry Faust, but not many people know much about the history of the Rugby program. New Head Coach Dom Denoma is looking to change that narrative as he takes over for the 2023 Rugby spring season.

Previously managed by Moeller graduate Steven Kuhlman (10), the Rugby team went 6-6 last season and was able to make a great state run after beating the tough St. Eds in the semifinal game. Unfortunately, the hard-fought season came to an end at the state championship game after being held to zero points against the rivaled St. Ignatius.

With last year in the past, Coach Denoma looks to help bring the program back up to steam to make an even more promising season for the players. Denoma is looking forward to leading the program saying, “I’ve been a part of the program for a long time, and I’m just really excited in hopefully making a difference in Moeller High School.” With a small senior class, Coach Denoma is still confident in their abilities and leadership, seeing their dedication and hard work from this offseason.

With the 7 on 7 fall season, not to mention three days a week of lifting and conditioning in the winter, the fighting Crusaders are seeking to have a gritty season with a chip on their shoulder. “I’m excited for our guys like Ryan Mechley, Tony Arnold, and I mean all of them really, in just looking to letting them shine because we have a lot of goals this season that we want to accomplish.”

With confidence like that, the players are looking to rally around their new coach in plans to make this season one to remember.
