Making Goals and Breaking Records: Moeller Soccer on the Precipice of History-Making Season

‘23 Moeller Soccer Roster

The varsity soccer team is having an amazing season with their latest win over local GCL La Salle bumping their record up to 12-0.

The team is currently in first place in the GCL with 12 points, ranked third in the nation, and is undefeated so far. The boys have only given up one goal all season on a penalty kick. The team is on track to be one of the best Moeller teams ever and is a high favorite to win state.

Moeller Soccer has never won a state title, so the buzz to win at that level is a big deal for everyone contributing. Moeller Senior soccer player Mateo Improvola shared his thoughts on what could become a historic season: “I think it would be one of the greatest achievements for any high school soccer player.”

The team is competing and racing towards breaking not just Moeller soccer records but OHSAA records. The team now holds the record for the best start to a season in Moeller history. The record was held by a 90’s Moeller team who went 10-0, which this year’s team has bested by two additional wins thus far. The soccer team also now holds the record for most shutouts in a row, which is up to 11 and was previously held by the 2018 team at 7. They are also on track to be the only team in soccer to go undefeated in Moeller history AND GCL history. Finally, Moeller Soccer is on track to beat the OHSAA record for shutouts in a row; the record is currently 17, and the Crusaders are up to 11. With some easy games left on the schedule, breaking this final record could be a real possibility for the team.

The team has four games left in the regular season which include two GCL matches and senior day on October 7th at 1pm. This team could go down as one of the best Moeller teams and even best high school teams ever. Best of luck as the Crusaders embark on the final games of the regular season!
