Moeller Stars in the Portal

By Donovan Mukes and Nolan Krekeler

During this off-season in college basketball, the transfer portal was loaded with talent from Moeller High School. There were four Moeller grads looking to make big moves and find their new perfect home. Jeremiah Davenport ‘18, Max Land ‘20, Logan Duncomb ‘21, Evan Mahaffey ‘22 all intend to have break out seasons in their next chapters.

Jeremiah Davenport ‘18 for UC.

Jeramiah Davenport has played for four years at the University of Cincinnati, but he decided to hop into the transfer portal and will be furthering his basketball career at the University of Arkansas. Davenport led the Crusaders to a state championship in 2018, his senior year.  He played 109 games with UC and averaged 23.2 minutes per game. Davenport also averaged 9.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1 assist. Davenport was considered a leader on the Bearcat’s squad, and he wanted to pursue another year in college basketball at Arkansas, hoping to boost his chances at getting drafted.

Logan Duncomb ‘21 at IU.

Another highlighted Moeller student is Logan Duncomb. Duncomb originally attended Indiana University, and after entering the portal this year, will be transferring to Xavier University for the 23-24 season. In his time at Moeller, Duncomb won state freshman and sophomore year as a teammate with Davenport. Duncomb did not play much with the Hoosiers in the two years at IU, but he looks to excel his career at Xavier University and help the Muskies make a run in March Madness. Duncomb announced earlier this year that he enjoyed all of his time spent at IU and that he is excited for the next chapter in his career.

Max Land ‘20 for SaintFrancis.

Max Land played three seasons at St. Francis and started in his sophomore and junior seasons. During his sophomore year, Land averaged 8.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 0.9 assists. Since then, he has improved in each of those categories, averaging 12.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists during his junior season. Land’s ability to shoot the ball while still being able to finish at the rim makes him a very valuable asset. After being in the portal for just a couple of weeks, Land found the right fit at South Alabama.

Evan Mahaffey ‘22 for Penn State.

Freshman stand out Evan Mahaffey is a 6’6 guard/forward with a great IQ for the game and huge play-making abilities. Mahaffey has NBA potential and is looking for the right group of coaches and teammates to help him achieve that. After speaking with Mahaffey on the phone, he brought up a couple of things he is looking for in a college during this process. He talked about wanting to be part of a team where he could make that immediate impact to help them jump to that next level. He also wants to find a place where he can develop his game so some day he can play at the highest level. Another thing Mahaffey mentioned was finding a school with a good business program. The last thing he is looking for is a place that gives a family feel.

The Moeller family wishes all alum in the portal the best of luck!!

Update: Since publication, Evan Mahaffey has committed to Ohio State University for the 23-24 season.
