Moeller Soccer Dominates the Field

Moeller Soccer has been at the top of their game so far this 2023 season.

They were ranked number one in the state on the OSSCA State Week 3 Poll, with a record of 8-0-0. The boys have racked up impressive wins against LaSalle, Henry Clay, St. X, Mason, and more. Most recently, varsity beat Elder 3-1. When asked about the success of the team, senior goalie Austin Nowak said, “I’d say we just play at a high intensity and our main focus is defense.”

With the success of the team, the coaches have had some big wins too. Coach Welker, class of 2002, recently celebrated his 100th career win over the past seven and a half years in the game against LaSalle. The team celebrated their coach with balloons, banners, and cheese coneys. Moreover, Moeller was ranked number one in the SW Ohio Coaches Poll above schools like St. Xavier, Elder, Mason, and many more.

The season is far from over, however. The Crusaders still have five more regular-season game: Lakota West, St. Xavier, St. Charles, La Salle, and Hamilton. When asked about the mentality going into the last games, Nowak said, “I would like to say our mentality would be don’t take our foot off the gas and just do what we’ve done best so far and keep winning. I think we’ll finish the season strong at the 1 seed as well.”

Going beyond the season, some players have started to receive offers to further their soccer careers in college. Recently, senior Mason Cooper committed to Xavier University to play on their division one team. In his official announcement, he said, “Very thankful for my family and their endless support, all of the coaches I’ve had along the way, and my teammates for constantly pushing me to get better.”

Make sure to support Mason, Austin, and all the other guys by going to the final games of the season. Go Big Moe!!
