Moeller Yellmen: Hype Men of Moe

As the football regular season wraps up, the team and coaches, who have been working extremely hard all season, are now preparing for the postseason. The end goal: a state championship.

This goal wouldn’t be possible without the energy and excitement that they have received from the fans. Drew Currin, a senior on the team said, “The more students there are, the harder the team and I tend to play.” He added that an enthusiastic crowd helps relieve nerves and brings unmatched levels of energy. Moeller has been known for having large and rowdy student sections, and this year was certainly no exception. This wouldn’t be possible without the leaders of the student section, the Moeller Yellmen. Better known as The Cavalry, these guys hype up the student section and bring much-needed energy through screams and chants. Besides leading the student section, the Yellmen also prepare hype videos for the football games and lead the pep rallies.

To learn more about The Cavalry, I talked to Owen Boggess, one of the leaders of The Yellmen. Boggess provided an outline of what goes on behind the scenes. Before each game, The Cavalry meets to discuss the theme, different chants, video ideas and anything else for gameday. They also go to cheer practices periodically, so they can perfect their stunts with the cheerleaders when it is gametime. When asked about his favorite memory throughout the year, the game vs St. Xavier at UD really stood out for him: “The blackout with the gold rally towels looked really good, the boys brought the energy the whole game, and we won. It was almost a dream scenario.”

Lastly, Boggess talked about future plans and said The Cavalry is trying to focus on promoting all sports that are nearing the end of their seasons. The group wants to make sure students show up to games with lots of energy and excitement.

Best of luck to Moeller and the Yellmen as the fall post-season continues!
