Historical War Gaming Club
Moeller offers many clubs and extracurricular activities for students. One of these programs is the Historical War Gaming Club led by Mr. Faller. This club is for anyone who loves history and loves learning and playing strategic board games.
The club meets once a month on a Saturday and also has alumni come back and battle the current students. One battle can take up to four to five hours. You take turns moving your troops and attacking while also having to re-supply your troops with proper resources. The group has many different battles. They have done World War I, World War II, Vietnam, Korea-American Civil War, and others. You must be very strategic to play because you must try and accomplish your goal of either defending or conquering.
One of the cool aspects of the club is that they use miniature soldiers’ tanks and houses and most of the vehicles are all 3D printed and hand painted by group members. The details of the soldiers are very cool. Some will have cool facial expressions and the tanks and vehicles look exactly like they did over 100 years ago. Tiger tanks have the infamous stripes and certain tanks have moveable turrets on top. Mr. Faller uses historical miniatures to recreate military engagements.
The games involve dice rolling, measurements, fire tables, charts, and rules. On enormous tables scaled to size with tiny figures of soldiers, students engage in combat. The games are intense and provide a realistic representation of the challenges faced by generals during actual conflicts.
This club enhances your understanding of historical events in a special way, as well as your intuition and military strategy. To join the club, just show up or talk to Mr. Faller! You can email Mr. Faller through MoeCampus or go see him in Room 328.
