A Colorful New Elective: AP Art History

Have you ever been curious about the ancient battle scrolls in China? Cave paintings from early Europe? If so, here is a class that will catch your eye.

Taught by the Visual Department Chair, Mrs. Sommer, AP Art History is a yearlong elective where students focus on how different cultures of the world respond to all aspects of life… with art. Students taking this course will get to know more about the past and contemporary arts responding to war, political change, and human beings’ takes or reactions to the world around them. This is a perfect class to take alongside World History as students will get to compare and contrast many of the same cultures. For any students wondering, Mrs. Sommer says, “The homework is not too intense, but there will be homework.”

This class not only will better prepare you for college by teaching you the history of art, but also will provide the opportunity to earn an AP credit. An AP credit in this class can allow students who are interested in a creative college major to test out of the first semester of Art History in college. If you are not choosing a creative arts major, you can potentially eliminate an elective course in college.

Mrs. Sommers says, “It is an awesome class for someone interested in journalism, humanities, or learning about different cultures around the world.”

Be sure to check out this comprehensive new elective that touches on history, art, humanities, and cultre. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Sommer!
