Moeller's Modern van Gogh: Quinn Murphy

Here at The Crusader, we do our best to cover all the big-time events, from new teachers and what they bring to the table, to cooking up stories with spicy new SAGE drama, and even to keeping you in on the action with NERF wars. Today we would like to keep it close to home and expand even further into the classroom in Crusader fashion by having a wholesome interview as we examine what it’s like to be a four-year art student at Moe and how drawing is our guest’s, Quinn Murphy’s, path to enlightenment.

I’m Adam Ganz and we at The Crusader would like to present, The Joy of Conversation:  a relaxing evening interview with Quinn Murphy.

Crusader: Who are the artists that most inspire you?

A: One, as an artist I never know how to answer that question. Not that there isn’t an answer, it’s just that that question is kind of like when you’re in a small group and they ask who wants to say something interesting about themselves. It’s like I’d rather cut my ear off, you know.  Two mostly Bob Ross and Chanel West Coast, considering I had cable television growing up, these were my equivalent to renaissance era enlightenment.

Crusader: If you made a Bob Ross/Chanel West Coast inspired collab for a piece of artwork, what would you call it?

Murphy: I’d like to call it the Joy of Ridiculousness.

Crusader: What would that sound like?

Murphy: Probably some uhh happy little squirrels and a dolphin laughing.

Crusader: Who is your dream celebrity to give a piece of Art to?

Murphy:: Aubrey.

Crusader: (Who?)

Murphy:: Drake.

Crusader: Why’d you call him by his first name?

Murphy:: Cause, I just know him like that. *Makes rock star hand signs*

Crusader: Anyone Else?

Murphy:: Queen Munch, my Shordy Ice Spice.

Crusader: Where do you think modern art is heading?

Murphy:: NFTs and anime but why does anyone care?

Crusader: Spoken like a true artiste’. I for one care so I can get this project done.

Murphy:: True True, Spoken like a true interviewer.

 Crusader: What’s your most successful work?

Murphy:: I would have to say I once drew this accurate depiction of the campsite I was on, and it really escalated the naturist background, in other words the pretty little trees.

Crusader: Want to draw caricatures of each other?

(He declined because he had homework.)
