House Basketball Underway

Moeller House Basketball tryouts took place on Tuesday, January 17. All students, freshman through senior, had the opportunity to try out and represent their house. House basketball is one of the most popular events in the competition for the house cup, and Pillar currently holds the crown of reigning champions from last year’s house basketball season.

Most teams have around fifteen players with varsity basketball players serving as coaches. During the games, all teams must have a member of each grade on the floor, otherwise the team will receive a penalty.

Hanleigh Lopez, a member of Eveslage House, has experience in the competition and spoke briefly about this year’s event: “I think this year is more fun since we are in the senior class now. It’s a great way for students to be involved in other sports, even without participating in the actual team sport.” Lopez also went on to say that house basketball creates leadership and fun interactions with students among different grade levels.

On a different note, Jordan Marshall, a senior in Quiroga, spoke on the high expectations for his house’s basketball team. Marshall stated, “I think we will go to the championship. The team is promising, and we have a lot of great players and a lot of depth.”

The two teams who finish on top in group play will advance to the Moeller House Basketball Championship. The anticipated finals will be taking place in the main gym in front of a packed school audience. All other matches take place during mentor group and m-block.
