Basketball Season Follow Up

We’re two weeks in with games and a month and a half of practices for the Moeller basketball team so far. After playing three games, Chaminade Juliene and Dayton Stivers was by far a difficult challenge that was faced by the basketball team towards the beginning of their season. With these two teams feeling like they were easy wins, the box scores and stats don’t show it as Moeller’s team chemistry is just starting to develop into the team, they were last season. As you read further into this article, we’ll dive into the stats between both games, the overall games, and what the outcome might hold for the team in the future.

As mentioned before, Chaminade Juliene and Dayton Stivers gave Moeller a difficult challenge to face. With the team going 65% and 44% from the field and 45% and 13% from the perimeter respectively, Moeller was struggling to get the offensive momentum going to become the team like last season. With their shooting significantly decreasing, this makes it hard for Moeller to get a large lead which they were able to do last season. Along with the getting the offensive momentum, Moeller had a total of 25 turnovers between both games with the Dayton Stivers game having the most turnovers with 16. This usually doesn’t happen to Moeller as they always try to possess the ball extremely well and always find the open guy to score.

However, yesterday was Moeller’s first home game of the season and it was against Withrow. Withrow is like the teams mentioned as they usually give Moeller a hard time with their toughness and determination to beat one of the best high school basketball programs in the state. Regardless, Moeller was able to pull out a huge win as the team looked good on both sides of the court. Although they were 53% from the field and 33% from the perimeter, Moeller had 12 steals and 3 blocks on the defensive end which allowed them to push their lead further as the game kept going on.

Although the stats for these games weren’t the best, they gave a challenge not only to the basketball program but to the senior class as well. With it being the last season for the seniors and redeeming themselves to the state-run last season, they have to push each other to improve their work ethic at practice. This will make sure that each player is on the same page with defensive footwork, plays, and scoring options to make strive to the same goal that everyone else has which is winning state.

As the season progresses with the tournament in Myrtle Beach and the GCL matchups coming up, Moeller will continue to strive to become the team they were last season. With the core values that the program laid their foundation towards: Team Attitude, Arete, Toughness, and First Class, Moeller will hopefully continue to build their chemistry with each other along with the senior class showing their classmates below them what the basketball program is all for with the traditions being formed. With these two aspects to grow and work at, Moeller will have a chance at making a huge run in the state tournament and hopefully win the state title for the school once again.
