Club Spotlight: Ping-Pong

At Moeller, building family and community is important, so it’s not surprising that there is a myriad of ways students can get involved. In fact, The Crusader crunched the numbers and found that Moeller has 16 athletic teams, five competitive clubs, and 28 recreational clubs. Recreational clubs are a great way for students to interact with the school community, and among their number is the recently added Ping-Pong Club.

Freshman Josh Campbell, Sophomore Keegan Hantak, Junior Louis Wenstrup, Moeller Alumni Wyatt Myers, and Mr. DiCristoforo initiated the idea of adding the Ping-Pong Club. Also called table tennis, ping-pong has been a part of the summer Olympic games since 1988. The competitive forms of ping-pong can be played with singles or doubles. Currently, ping-pong at Moeller is recreational, and The Crusader talked to Mr. DiCristoforo to get an overview of what Ping-Pong Club is all about.

Ping-Pong Club members in action.

Crusader: Do matches tend to be more competitive or casual?

Mr. DiCristoforo: We are intense when playing, but overall, the environment is very laid back.

Crusader: How are matches played? Through tournament style or student vs. student?

Mr. DiCristoforo: No formal standings or tournaments yet, but those are coming.

If you are interested in joining the Ping-Pong Club, it meets every Tuesday in room 324 from 2:45 to 3:30pm. There are no applications, fees, or equipment required to join. Simply show up with the willingness to have fun! Why not stop by next Tuesday, February 13th for some ping-pong action!
