Moeller Celebrates Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular holidays in the US, and it is also celebrated in other countries around the world, though not always on February 14th. The history of the holiday is complex: several saints share the name Valentine, while the holiday also has some commonalities with ancient pagan festivals.

Our modern-day Valentine celebration is a day when people show their affection and appreciation for the ones they love. On February 14th, people spend time with their significant other and often enjoy a fancy dinner or box of chocolates.

Many Moeller students will be celebrating this day, and you might be wondering what high school students plan to do to make this a memorable Valentine’s Day. To get some insight into this question, The Crusader talked to Erik Warncke.

Crusader: What does Valentine’s Day mean to you?

Erik: It’s a time for couples to get together and appreciate each other.

Crusader: Are you planning to buy any gifts for your girlfriend?

Erik: Flowers and chocolate.

There are many types of gifts one can give to his or her partner, with the most popular ranging from flowers and candy to a nice dinner. According to the holidayspot.com, “Worldwide, over 50 million roses are given on Valentine’s Day each year and about 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged.”

The Crusader also talked to Moeller Senior Kyle Havens to ask about his plans for the night. Havens said, “I am going to take my girlfriend out to a nice but affordable restaurant. Possibly Olive Garden. I also bought her a Pandora charm bracelet, a box of chocolates, and some flowers that I will give her before dinner.”

Valentine’s Day is a time of year where relationships can form and build to be stronger than before. It revolves around love, and it’s a special day when people can show their appreciation for their partner.

Thank you to Kyle Havens and Erik Warncke for talking with The Crusader!

Happy Valentine’s Day, Moeller!
