House Events to Build the Brotherhood
Moeller High School is well known for the house system established in the early 2000s. With this, the Moeller house system provides events during the school year which allows students to build a brotherhood within their house and support their house by providing points to help their house win the Marinist Cup at the end of the year. At the beginning of the school year, there are many upcoming events to help build the brotherhood and provide points to your house.
Spirit events are a way to help with your house. On one hand, they allow you to support and provide points to your house by just showing up and watching your fellow classmates compete in sports. However, on the other hand, they allow you to build the brotherhood by meeting different students from all classes and hanging out with them while you watch the event. Maybe you’ve seen them before from a previous class or perhaps they are in a different grade than you. This is a great opportunity to talk to them and make a new friend out of it. It’s like killing two birds with one stone. Besides the spirit event that happened this past Saturday with the soccer team, the house system is trying to provide a second spirit event during this quarter. There will be a lot of spirit events coming up throughout the school year so be on the lookout for those from the morning announcement emails. But for right now, go out and support your classmates as well for your house.
A tailgate party, a social event held around an open tailgate on the back of a truck or vehicle usually before a sporting event. This is the simple definition of what MoeGate is all about every year. A social event held (not around an open tailgate) at school before a sporting event. That sporting event is none other than our rival St. Xavier high school. MoeGate is provided by the house system, and it is another great way to build the brotherhood with your house by throwing the pigskin around and playing some spike ball with fellow classmates while eating some great smorgasbord of food the parents provide. It also helps prepare students with a rally that the Yellman hold after MoeGate to get them ready for this BIG rivalry game at St. Xavier. MoeGate will be on Thursday the 19th. The bad news is yes, you still must attend school on Friday before the game but, the good news is that classes on Thursday will end at noon. So, you get out of class early and there will be plenty of time for you to hang out with friends, play some activities, and eat some great food!
Homecoming is also a great way to meet with some of your buddies along with girls at MND. Whether that would be dancing in a group or going out to dinner with them beforehand. The house system provides this to help you and your girlfriend (also classmates) to have a relaxed dance together wearing dress shirts and pants and a tie. Also note that you and your date shouldn’t wear hard or black sole shoes or high heels as we are currently getting a new gym floor and don’t want to damage it. You must bring a girlfriend to be able to buy tickets and go to the homecoming dance but, it’s a great way to spend some quality time with your girlfriend and classmates. Homecoming tickets will go on sale for $50 per couple on Wednesday September 18th, and it will close on Thursday October 3rd at 2pm for the dance on Saturday October 5th. For the Freshman and Sophomores, the dance is 6:00-8:00pm and for the Juniors and Seniors, the dance is from 8:30-10:30. Before you buy your tickets and go to this amazing dance, you need your girlfriend to fill out a form with emergency contact information just for safety reasons that Moeller provides. Make sure you go buy your tickets before they sell out for this one-of-a-kind dance with your girlfriend!
Whether it’s something small of just getting your body to the students’ sections for spirit events or being social by getting out of your comfort zone with the dance, there are many opportunities to build the brotherhood here at Moeller and there will certainly be more opportunities as the school year goes on. So go out there and build the brotherhood and earn the shield.
