Athan Bridges

Before Moeller, I lived private and public-school life. I got a taste of both worlds; I grew up going to private school I went to St. Aloysious on Bridgetown Road over on the Westside part of Cincinnati from Kindergarten-4th grade. After St. AL’s, I transferred to C.O. Harrison one of the many public schools in the Oak Hills district. I learned how to adapt to the new environment quickly. Once middle school started, it’s when reality hit me the most. By end of 8th grade, I was determined that I was going to Oak Hills High School and didn’t think of any other school. By freshman year that’s when I started going to open houses, I knew I had to get out for my own sanity, that’s when I landed on Moeller. Different atmosphere I fell in love with the traditions and the athletics. I enjoy spending time with family and friends working out and exploring new places.

Sophomore year is when I transferred in, I started off with being apart of baseball. Much different from Oak Hills baseball, the intensity was real and the pressure was on to show that I could compete with everyone else. By the end of sophomore year, I made the team as a player/ student manager but started to play more at the end of the season. Junior year I decided to hang up the cleats for baseball and made a transition to rugby. Greatest decision I’ve made. Senior year I proven to people at Moeller on what type of person I am and got voted as mentor group captain, and in just half a year started on varsity for rugby 7’s.

One of my favorite moments at Moeller is between two sporting events I just can’t pick between either of them. I finally got to play, my first time ever at bat, I got a beachball! The flattest pitch I have ever seen, I swung made good contact drops at the wall after the left fielder missed the ball and hit my only high school career inside the part home run. Or this past February where I got to play against St. Xavier in 7’s I scored four times in one game and 3 of those scores were about a 75-yard run.

Plans after Moeller, I’m looking to attend Xavier University for Sports medicine and Exercise Science. I am also looking to join their rugby team for the fall and spring and looking to go into a strong internship with beacon after spending four months in physical therapy I got to build connections with most of the therapists and there looking to see me come in next year.
