College Knowledge: What's It All About?
College Knowledge is “a great program to help students learn more about the college process and ensure that they get the proper outcomes in the colleges they desire,” Moeller Senior Dom Schutte said.
College Knowledge is a program that starts for juniors at Moeller and lasts throughout the whole year. During college knowledge, students partake in “searching for colleges that best suit your talents and research these colleges, making sure that they’re the right one for you.” Dom Schutte explained.
Some students may dread the added M-Block requirement on B days, but others see it as an opportunity. There aren’t many hands-on activities that schools in our local district do that compare to college knowledge. Moeller isn’t one of a kind per say, but rather, quick to innovate and look to the future in learning. Using Microsoft forms and dual discussions in college knowledge, counselors and teachers can adapt to each class and their needs and wants in the college process. Additionally, they are able to hear and understand each and every one of our problems, allowing them to be a better guide during the college application process.
Deciding on a college that’s right for you is something that is easier said than done. How does College Knowledge help students in picking a college? In my own experience, as well as fellow senior Dom Schutte, we can say that through Naviance and common app, the college process becomes a whole lot simpler. Our counselors do a fantastic job of finding these programs and applying them to the student body to help with college. Furthermore, our counselors work outside of College Knowledge with students individually, so that we don’t feel alone in this huge step in our lives. Kaden Snodgrass said, “My counselor and I have had many conversations about college and has assisted me in writing my application as well as helping to guide me in my nerves and anxiousness in the process.”
The real point of college knowledge is solely meant to help guide our students in their choosing, not make the decision nor do the actual process for them. There are many steps we take on our own, and with this comes great responsibility to GET IT DONE. As a student, it is our job to attend every college knowledge meeting and do what is asked of us by our counselors. For those who worry about the college process, there will be calm in the storm, for at Moeller there is always help for those who seek it.
