Need Moe-Cycling

Have you noticed the blue recycling bins across the school? The recycling program at Moeller can change the world little by little and really make a difference for the future—but we all have to use it!

Recycling is pretty simple. You take something that is not useful anymore and turn it into something new again rather than just throwing it away. Materials that can be recycled include aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastics, paper, and wood.

Paper products are the most readily available material for recycling, and they account for one third by weight deposited into landfills in the United States. Plastics and glass account for 6% by weight. The new recycling program at Moeller is trying to influence students to change their behaviors and learn more about how recycling works and make an impact on the community. Every bit makes a difference.

Why should I recycle? It conserves energy, reduces air and water pollution, reduces greenhouse gases, and conserves natural resources. This is critical to our world today and how long we want our resources to last for future generations. We can create so many new things with the resources that we save and recycle.

Where can I find recycling at Moeller? On every floor next to the bathroom doors, you will see a blue trash can (next to the regular black trash can) which is only for recycling. Please be cautious and aware to only throw recycled items in the blue trash can.

What are other ways Moeller has helped reduce paper products throughout the school? There are new water fountains that can refill your water bottles. This helps to reduce the number of single-use plastic or glass bottles. In some of the bathrooms, we now have blow dryers for your hands instead of paper towels, which reduces waste.

Next time you throw something away, you have a choice to be part of the solution to the problem and know that you are making a difference. Moeller provides many ways to recycle and needs everyone to participate to make it a success. Next time you are about to throw away a plastic water bottle or old paper, take a minute to remember it can be recycled with minimal effort on your part.

The blue bins are provided to recycle aluminum, plastic, and paper.

Anything not recyclable should be disposed of in the designated trash cans.
