Marinist Cup: Still Up for Grabs!

With a big win last year, Eveslage is trying to pull away again for a second run at the Marinist Cup.

Currently, the house rankings are as follows:

  • Quiroga (40.5 pts)

  • Trinity (39 pts)

  • Eveslage (35.1 pts)

  • Zaragoza (33.7 pts)

  • Pillar (29.6 pts)

  • Zehler  (27.1 pts)

It still is anyone’s game with six house events left. Expect competition to become fierce as we come closer to the end of the school year!

The coveted Marianist Cup.

To find out more about house points and what there is to come, we asked Mrs. Boggess, Dean of Zaragoza, a few questions.

Q: What other big events are there to earn house points?

A:   At the end of the third quarter, we will add in Honor Roll and Discipline.  We take the number of students who made the honor roll and then figure out what percentage of the house that is.  Same for discipline, except it is the house that has the highest percentage of no detentions/blue slips.  We keep track for three quarters and then average it out.  We will also have House Bowling and 4th Quarter spirit events that factor into the cup. Also, the Clothing Drive, which occurs at the end of March, will be worth house points – but since all the houses fill their barrels (typically) it is usually a nice six points for your house.

Q: How important is it to try and win house basketball?

A: House Basketball is big as the top four houses are fairly close in points.  With the winning house earning six points, winning could help your house make some serious moves.

Q: What’s the key to winning the marinist cup as a house?

A: To win the cup, you don’t have to win every event, but it helps if you are in the top three as much as possible with a few wins every quarter. Since we went to proportional scoring for spirit events, we have found that the competition is much stronger as the points are much closer.  Attendance at these events has a big impact as you get the same percentage of points (out of 15) that you had for attendance at the events.

The competition for the Marinist Cup is far from over and anyone can still win it all. There are still so many opportunities for every house to earn points and win. Remember to get out to the spirit events and participate in any competition like the upcoming clothing drive.

Good luck to all the houses!
