Quiroga Wins House Cup for the First Time!

Dean Hough with Quiroga House Captains at House Awards.

For the first time in the history of the House System at Moeller, Quiroga took the big prize, claiming the Marianist Cup for the 22-23 school year!

The news that Quiroga had won came during the Senior Awards ceremony on April 26th. The competition was stiff, with returning Crusader Game champions Pillar pulling last minute points, and consistent heavy hitters such as Eveslage and Zehler putting up a strong showing too.

Every house had a win under their belts at the beginning of this year, except one: Quiroga. The other houses had counted them out.  They forgot the underdog, the southpaws, the snakes in the grass that came out of nowhere with the maroon poison.  That was Quiroga.

Quiroga House waves their flag in victory!

Quiroga House has been putting up fine grades, solid attendance, and good behavior nearly every year as they’ve fought to get their first win. For many years, they came close with second or third place showings, never quite reaching that number one spot. All of the near wins provided the cobras with a motivation to finally achieve what had been out of reach for so long.

This year, through countless early morning meetings, determination from an all-star dean, and students dedicated to the goal, Quiroga put everything they had into the competition. It came down to a neck and neck race to the finish, with Quiroga sticking out their tongues across the finish line like Lighting McQueen at the end of Cars! And while they may have come second in the Crusader games, it was enough to eek out the win!

Now Quiroga House can finally celebrate its first win thanks to its multiple masters of chess, its Forest Gump-level ping-pong players, and its house leaders who will roll for the Cobras till the day they die!  And personally, as a nomad of the Quiroga Shannon mentor group myself, I can say I’m proud of where we are as a house and the work that paid off.  In conclusion, you can’t think about this Quiroga win without mentioning the greatest dean of all time: Tough Hough himself, Mr. John Hough, a man who was the Coach Carter of these slippery snakes.  Roll Cobras.
