New Home for Moeller Football
For the past six seasons, Moeller football has never found a home field for more than two years. Ever since departing Lockland in 2018, Moeller football has been on the run. Bouncing around year after year, Moeller football looks to call Mount St. Joseph home for the 23-24 season.
Moeller is continuing to explore the option of building a home stadium by the newly built baseball stadium, but has yet to make any official plan for this to happen.
Moeller’s athletic office said, “There are ongoing talks and discussions about building a permanent home stadium for Moeller football.”
Some reasons why Moeller does not have a current stadium is because of the lack of land, and depending on where they build, the community must be on board. Light and sound ordinances are a main reason why Moeller does not have a stadium today on our property. Moeller does not have lights in the Gerry Faust Athletic Complex, and they are required to keep the complex speakers at a low level.
Thankfully, Moeller can pump the speakers and have Friday night lights at Mount St. Joesph. Moeller had never played at the Mount in their entire 63 years of existence.
Moeller’s first ever game in school history at the Mount was August 18th at 7:30. There were a lot of firsts on August 18th for the Crusaders. It was the first game coached for the newly hired Bert Bathiany, and first the game in school history against Ben Davis. Unfortunately, the Crusaders lost 28-49, but were able to bounce back the next week at the Mount, beating Bishop Dwenger 57-0.
Moeller looks to continue to bring winning football to Mount St Joesph and is striving to reach the final goal of winning a state championship.
Mount St. Joesph’s football team went 10-1 last year and have welcomed the Crusaders into Schueler Field. Schueler field opened in 2004 and has seen the Lions strive for greatness. The Moeller Crusaders look to continue their recent success of the past two seasons by reaching the final four both times, but also face the uphill battle of having a first-year head coach and an extremely difficult schedule.
The Moeller Crusaders are ready to battle at their new home for the foreseeable future, at Mount St. Joesph.
