John Boehner was born on November 17, 1949. Boehner attended our Moeller High School and graduated in 1968 and he was a football player under the famous coach Gerry Faust. After high school he attended Xavier University and then started his own small business. Shortly after that, he got into politics after seeing firsthand how high taxes and red tape impact entrepreneurs. He represented Ohio's 8th congressional district from 1991 until his resignation in 2015, and he is a member of the Republican Party who served as the 51st Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015. Students of the AP Government Class were lucky enough to have him come in and talk to us as a whole. Boehner started the speech with a slight introduction, although most of us already knew who he was. Boehner shared his experiences representing Ohio’s 8th congressional district and then his experience as the speaker of the house. He talked about the art of negotiation, which was very interesting to hear about. Lastly he shared his experience at Moeller and eventually the long lasting impact this school has had on him. Boehner was a very relatable guy who seemed true to himself. All in all this was an awesome experience for Moeller. Boehner often talks very well about us and it is truly a once in a lifetime to talk to a speaker of the house, Thank you Mr. Boehner!
