Zehler House Basketball

The house basketball season didn’t start the way Zehler wanted. In their first few games, the team struggled to find consistency and didn’t play their best. While there were moments when the team did play well, they were often followed by mistakes on the other end of the court. One of the biggest challenges has been communication on the court. Defensive switches were sometimes late, or there were none, players sometimes looked unsure of their assignments, and fast breaks seemed to be free points every time for the other team. On offense, possessions would turn into rushed and contested shots or turnovers instead of controlled plays even though we had the whole shot clock left. As a result, Zehler dropped a few close games that might have gone differently with better execution. However, the team understands that struggles can be part of the process. With players across grades still getting used to playing together, and some meeting each other for the first time, chemistry takes time to build. The last few games have focused more on fundamentals, including ball movement, defense, and making smarter decisions when pressed. Even though they didn’t come away with a win, the overall performance felt more organized. Zehler remains optimistic about the end of season tournament. Unlike the regular season, the tournament offers a fresh start. Records determine seeding, and every team has the same opportunity to get to the championship. Zehler believes that if they can put together a decent game, they can surprise the other house teams. While the first games did not reflect Zehler’s true capabilities, there is still confidence that the best is yet to come. With the tournament starting soon, Zehler is focused on learning from early mistakes and proving that they are capable of much more than they initially showed.
