Moeller Hockey: The Road to Greatness

Ice Hockey. Home to big hits and pretty goals. This year, the Moeller hockey team is starting their season with their sights set on the state finals. Getting there will be the challenge.

So far the Moeller Hockey team has a record of 6-3-2, playing against top ranked teams in the state such as St. Edward and University School. With a big game against St. X on Friday December 4th, the hockey team will be able to measure just how far they have come.

When asked about the upcoming St. Xavier game, hockey senior Jack Frambes said, “I hope that I can invite some friends to the St. X game this year. It is always fun to see everyone in the stands during a big game.” Sadly, with 2020 being the year that it is, the U.S. Bank Arena downtown is no longer a viable option for the big game. This year Moeller hockey will take on St. X at their home rink Northlands.

St. X is simply a steppingstone on the hockey team’s path to greatness. Moeller hockey senior Dom Kariofiles said, “I would say that we are going to compete well against any and all teams, but our biggest threat this year will be against Upper Arlington.” Despite Upper Arlington being potentially their toughest competition, their other games will be no slouch. After the game against St. X, the hockey team will have to play Olentangy Berlin, the team who knocked Moeller hockey out of the state playoffs in overtime last year.

Hopefully, the hockey team can put everything together with a strong senior class and a strong work ethic. Hockey senior Jack Stethem said, “It’s our work off of the ice that will set us apart from other teams.” With limited ice time here in Cincinnati, the Moeller hockey team puts just as much work off the ice, as on it. When not practicing, they are either in the weight room or reviewing video in preparation for their next big game.

Moeller Hockey is working hard this year to make their dreams of state championships a reality. With enough work, they hope to beat the competition and finish the year strong.
