Moeller Hockey Takes the Ice

The hockey team started off its season playing a tough Olentangy Liberty team, the defending state champions. The Crusaders kept it close at the initial November 17th game, ending the first period with a goal each. However, this did not last long as Liberty was able to tally four more goals making the final score 5-1.

The Crusaders looked to bounce back against St. John’s Jesuit on November 19. They were able to control the game, despite a close score going into the third period. The boys kept battling and finished the game with a 4-2 win, which provided some much-needed momentum.

The following weekend, the team traveled to Cleveland to compete in the Walsh Jesuit Tournament. The Crusaders started out flat, coming off a four-hour commute and took a 1-4 loss against a Padua team. They then moved onto to tournament host Walsh Jesuit. It was a tight game and ended in a tie. The Crusaders ended the tournament in the 7th/8th place game against Stow-Munroe High School, securing an 8-1 win. This final game provided insight into Moeller Hockey’s potential, even if the preceding games did not turn out as the team had hoped.

The games that followed the Walsh tournament resulted in three straight wins against Indian Hill, Thomas Worthington, and New Albany. The Crusaders will face Olentangy Berlin on Friday, December 8th at 6pm at Northlands Ice Center. This matchup has resulted in very close scores the past few years, so it promises to be an exciting game. Senior Goalie Noah Smith said, “there is a lot of talent on this team, especially with the top lines. It will be interesting to see what we can do this year.”

Good luck to Moeller Hockey as the team continues its season!
