Moeller Wrestling Ready to Get the Pin

The Moeller Wrestling season is underway, with two scrimmages—one at Moeller and the other at Princeton— already completed.

A few wrestlers really stood out during these pre-season events, including Jet Sanchez. Sanchez is a senior who is currently a varsity member of the wrestling team. Sanchez said of the early scrimmages, “Although I haven’t lost in a scrimmage yet, I have run into some serious competition and ranked guys.”

Even though the competition is sure to be challenging, Sanchez went on to discuss his high hopes for his senior year on the team. “My expectation for the season is to place at state. Sixth place is what I hope to accomplish, but nothing is a given.”

The wrestling team’s schedule this year is full of demanding competition. First, the team hits the road to play in the Walsh Jesuit Ironman at Walsh Jesuit High School. After that, they will play in the Southwest Ohio Wrestling Coaches Association (SWOWCA) Classic. This is an opportunity for some of Moeller’s guys to match up against the best of the best.

The weekend after SWOWCA, they are in the Powerade Tournament in Pennsylvania. This tournament will highlight some of the country’s biggest wrestlers and has participating high schools from all over the country!

The season will reach tournament time around March of next year. First, wrestlers must play in the State Duals Regional and State Duals Finals. If they make it out of that, they then go to the sectional tournament and district tournament. If they win the district, they will advance to the state tournament, which takes place at Ohio State University.

The wrestling team has a full schedule ahead of them, and it will be a fun season to watch the Crusaders compete. Good luck to Moeller Wrestling in their season ahead and at the Walsh Jesuit Ironman this weekend!
