2024-25 Moeller Swim and Dive Preview
Overall, the 2023-24 swim and dive season was a great success for the entire team. Despite having only 16 swimmers and 2 divers, there were numerous personal best times, and the team placed extremely well at various meets. They finished as the 2nd runner-up to St. X at the GCL championships, 4th at sectionals, 8th at districts, and 9th at state.
The upcoming roster for this year’s swim team is full of talent to replace the graduated seniors. There are numerous district and state qualifiers returning this year. Ryder Hicks, who broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke at districts, placed 4th in the 200 IM and 7th in the 100 breaststroke at state. Jackson Paterson placed 12th in the 100 back and 200 IM. Evan Preissler placed 11th in the 500 free and 9th in the 100 breast. Alex Held placed 14th in the 200 free and 17th in the 500 free at districts. Noah Spivery placed 13th in the 50 free and 19th in the 100 free at districts. The team has nearly doubled in size since last season, with numerous freshmen joining this year and a few returning swimmers from previous years.
Moeller has been through a few coaches in the past few years and is now settling on the best coach yet. Mr. Bennett has had a passion for swimming his whole life and has decided to pass that on to Moeller students.
Mr. Bennett wants to further build a connection and sense of identity within Moeller swimming. This year, there are many swimmers who are not year-round swimmers, so it’s their first time swimming in the winter. He wants the new swimmers to build their confidence and love for the sport. He also aims to close the gap between JV and varsity swimmers by having varsity practice with JV once a week, fostering team connection and helping JV swimmers grow and develop their love for the sport. Mr. Bennett’s goals for the upcoming season are to place higher in state and get more swimmers to qualify for sectionals and districts.
There are many important meets for the upcoming year, including the Coaches’ Classic meet, GCL Championships, Sectionals, Districts, and the State meet. Looking forward to the 2024-25 season, the team is the largest it has been in years. With the increased number of swimmers, Mr. Bennett hopes to place higher in state, score more points at GCL meets, and get more swimmers qualified for sectionals, districts, and state.
