Moeller Dominates in 44-28 Victory over Elder

The Moeller Crusaders took on the Elder Panthers on Friday, February 2nd, securing the win with a score of 44-28! The Crusader interviewed players Noah George and Kyle Havens before and after the game to get their firsthand experiences.

Before the game, George said, “This is our most important game of the year,” as a win for the Crusaders would push them closer to securing the GCL and a better ranking in the playoffs.

Kyle Havens backpedaling after sinking a jump shot.

George proceeded to say, “It’s the Number 4 team vs the Number 7 team in the state—stakes are high. Elder is a hard school to play at because of the smaller gym size…it’s loud.” Clearly, the boys had their work cut out for them last Friday night.

Kyle Havens also had some input prior to the game saying, “Every GCL game is tough because it’s a rivalry. The second round of GCL play is tough because everyone knows the ins and outs of your team, so it will put our skill as a team to test.”

Moeller went into the game hyped but were only leading 18-17 at half time. As the game proceeded in the second half, Moeller caught fire scoring basket after basket while the Panthers didn’t have an answer. Moeller’s high intensity defense allowed the team to control the court and come out with the win.

After the game, Havens said, “It’s a huge win. We played well and made plays down the stretch, and it puts us ahead in the GCL by two wins. We only need to win one more in order to win the GCL.” George continued, “We haven’t won in The Pit for a while. We were able to secure a part of the GCL by winning, so it feels great to get the win.”

The Crusaders deserve to celebrate this win, but then it’s right back to business as they play the St. Xavier Bombers at home on Friday, February 9th. It is sure to be an amazing rematch, so come out and support the boys on what will also be their senior night!
