Moeller Baseball Ready to Defend State Title
The Moeller Baseball team had a historic 2023 season, but as the boys start to gear up for 2024, they’re looking to carry the same success and mindset into this year.
On March 11th, the Crusaders had their first scrimmage at Kremchek Stadium against Lakota East High School. They played nine innings and beat Lakota East 9-0. Junior Zion Theophilus (LSU commit) got the ball to start and threw three innings with seven strikeouts while only allowing one hit. Along with Theophilus, Seniors Sam Scuglik (Ashland commit) and Tyler Heflin (Youngstown State commit) threw for the Crusaders. Scuglik and Heflin did not allow any runs, which was a strong showing for the pitching staff that hopes to continue its dominance on the mound throughout the season.
The Crusaders fell in their second scrimmage against Springboro on Thursday, March 14th. The Crusaders want to continue to get better every game and compete to their best abilities, using all of the talent in their lineup.
Looking forward, the Crusaders are ranked eleventh nationally per Perfect Game and seventh nationally by Prep Baseball report. As the Crusaders roll into their season, they have pressure due to the rankings but are focused on winning one game at a time and defending their state title.
