Moeller Wrestling End of Season Recap

With the state tournament wrapping up this past weekend, the Moeller Wrestling season has come to an end. The season was very successful as the Crusaders went 5-3 overall and secured second place in the GCL.

The team also competed in multiple tournaments and events throughout the year, placing well at several:

  • 1st place in the Rumble on the River

  • 3rd place in the SWOWCA Coaches Classic

  • 42 out of 70 in the Powerade Tournament

  • 8th out of 48 in the Perrysburg Invitational

  • 4th out of 17 in the Madeira Invitational

  • 2nd at the Raider Invitational

Post-Season:

  • 1st at the OHSAA Sectional Tournament

  • 2nd at the OHSAA District Tournament

  • 9th at the OHSAA State Tournament

On top of these team placements, the Crusaders had multiple wrestlers place well individually. At the state tournament, the Crusaders had two State runner ups: Londen Murphy ’25 and Will Adkins ’25. Stone Busler placed fifth and Luke Stuerenberg placed sixth as well.

Thank you to Seniors Drew Budd, Stone Busler, Ryan Dolan, Jared Johnston, Graham Mercurio, and Jet Sanchez for your commitment to this program.

The Crusader talked with Senior Graham Mercurio about his wrestling career at Moeller.

Crusader: Favorite memory within the wrestling team?

Mercurio: The team takes a trip to Pennsylvania every year for the Powerade tournament. This is always a good time as we got to compete against some of the best kids in the nation.

Crusader: How has this year been for the team overall especially compared to previous years?

Mercurio: This has been one of the best years for the wrestling program since I’ve been at Moeller as there haven’t been two state finalist in a long time.

Crusader: Has there been anything special about the team this year?

Mercurio: The team is a lot closer this year than in years prior. We were a young team last year and that gave us more time to bond and grow together as a team.

Crusader: Is there anything special that you want to highlight from your time in the wrestling program?

Mercurio: This program has given me lessons that I can take with me for the rest of my life which makes it very special to me.

Thanks to Graham for taking the time to talk with The Crusader, and congratulations on a great season to the wrestling team!
