Moeller Rugby- Getting Back on Track

Moeller Rugby is starting its season again, and Head Coach Dominic Danoma, in his second year in the role, is confident in his team.

With multiple starters out at the Moeller and St. Louis tournaments, they had an okay start to the season with a scrimmage record of 4-2. However, those starters are almost fully back, and the team is looking strong as they go into league play this week vs. Saint Edwards. The Crusader got a chance to talk to two seniors on the team: Eli Duffy and Alex Robinson.

The Crusader: How confident are you in the ability of the team to win a state championship this season?

Duffy: I am fairly confident in the ability of our team; we need to fix a couple of things, but I think if we work together as a team, we can do anything.

Alex Robinson: Pretty confident. Our team is talented and has some great play makers. This same team has already won state on the JV level two years ago. We’ve only gotten better since and look to keep progressing throughout the season.

Moeller Rugby has been to the state championship three years in a row now but have lost all contests to St. Ignatius. The Crusader was curious about what the players think they need to do to win a championship.

The Crusader: What does the team need to do to get over the hump of winning a state championship?

Duffy: We need to do the little things right, showing up to practice on time, hustling all the time, and catching the ball.

Robinson: Our team chemistry is like no other. We all are super close and have a ton of fun playing together. However, that can be a challenge for us because sometimes we get distracted and stop focusing on the things we need to do to get better.
