Moeller Volleyball Headed for State
Moeller’s defending three-time state champion volleyball team is entering the final stretch of its season. The team has had a successful year as it heads into the last game. Being the defending state champions, every team Moeller meets on the court treats the game as if it is the state final, so this season has been harder than ever.
Moeller Volleyball has had a tough schedule, meeting number one ranked St. Xavier three times. Moeller carries a 15-4 record overall and a 4-2 record in the GCL. This puts them second in the GCL behind the Bombers. This Moeller Volleyball Team consists of eight seniors including Tyler Geselbracht, Ben Marcum, Eli Ernst, Colin Yox, Dom Shutte, Luke Oliver, A.J Rumley, and Nathan Balda. Senior night was May 2nd against Carrol and resulted in a 3-0 win for the Crusaders!
Varsity starter and Senior Eli Ernst spoke with The Crusader about the season.
The Crusader: How have you and your team attacked this season?
Ernst: We have won state the past three years, so there is a target on our backs. We know who our main competitor is, so we are focused on St. X and getting past them. We want to attack every game like we are playing St. X, attack every game like we are in the playoffs.
The Crusader: What makes this volleyball team special?
Ernst: The eight seniors. This is the most seniors that have been on the team in a while. The bond on the team is the strongest it’s been in my career. We have the chance to prove everyone wrong. We are said to have lost talent from last year and our chances aren’t as good, but we want to prove everyone wrong.
The Crusader: What are your hopes for the end of the season?
Ernst: Obviously, the main goal is to win state, but another thing is to make the most out of my last season and make memories with my teammates that will last a lifetime.
Thanks to Eli for the interview, and good luck to the volleyball team as it heads into the final stretch of the season.
