Moeller Wrestling State Championship Recap

At the 2025 OHSAA State Wrestling Championships, the Archbishop Moeller wrestling team had an impressive showing, proving why they are one of the top programs in Ohio. The team qualified 10 wrestlers for the state tournament, a huge accomplishment since the last time they sent that many was back in the 2006-07 season. Having a lot of state qualifiers gives the team a better chance at scoring more points and placing high in the team standings.

One of the biggest highlights for Moeller was senior Will Adkins winning the state championship in the 215-pound weight class. In the finals, Adkins faced off against Riley McPherson from Brecksville, one of the toughest wrestlers in the state. It was a super close match, but Adkins pulled off a 4-1 win in sudden victory overtime, making him a state champion. This was a huge moment for him and the team, as winning an individual state title is one of the biggest achievements in high school wrestling.

Another Moeller wrestler who had a strong tournament was sophomore Blackburn Savage in the 106-pound division. He made it all the way to the semifinals before dropping a tough match. He finished in sixth place after losing by fall to Lucas Schulz from Brecksville. Even though he didn’t win the title, placing at the state tournament as a sophomore is still a great accomplishment, and he will have two more years to try and win a championship.

Overall, Moeller had a really successful tournament, with several wrestlers competing at a high level and bringing home state medals. Their strong performance showed that they are one of the best wrestling teams in Ohio, and with young wrestlers like Savage coming back next year, they will likely continue to be a powerhouse in the future. Congratulations on a great season!
