2024-2025 Basketball Season Review

Moeller basketball started off their season with high hopes, having a lot of seniors with very high expectations for the season this year. Senior forward Alex Kazanecki was looking to lead this team, a senior and the team’s leading scorer from the 2023-2024 season. Alex had this to say about his pre-season expectations, “There were some decently high expectations, but I just focused on doing whatever it took to win one game at a time, just trusting in my teammates and coaches along with all the hard work that I put in knowing that everything else would fall into place.” Moeller also had other key contributors that looked to have an impact on the year, notably Zach Green, Jake Bell, and Cooper McCutchan.

Moeller started off the season hot with a 51-42 win over GCL co-ed powerhouse Chaminade Julienne and kept up the hot streak with wins over Stivers, Hughes, and Gamble Montessori. They faced what was the best team yet at the time. Akron powerhouse and alma mater of NBA legend LeBron James, St Vincent St Mary High School was travelling down to Cincinnati to face the Moeller Crusaders. Moeller started the game off on the gas and never let go. Moeller soundly defeated the Fighting Irish 78-51, which was a huge win.

The Crusaders then traveled to Myrtle Beach to play in the coveted Christmas Beach Ball Classic tournament. The Crusaders started off against a very athletic Ridge View Blazers team who handed Moeller their first loss of the season with a score of 49-40. Moeller then bounced back with two wins over a local public school, Socastee High School, and then powerhouse prep school Windermere Prep out of Orlando.

Moeller then came home and had a tough stretch. Moeller first took down reigning regional champions, the Centerville Elks, 65-58 before they started GCL play. Moeller struggled in GCL play going 3-3, including losses to St Xavier twice and Elder once. Moeller then had a huge bounce back win against a Northern Kentucky Covington Catholic team with high level guards where Jake Bell really sparked the Crusaders, finishing with 10 points and 5-8 from the field. Bell hit a several timely buckets in this game. After the game, Jake said, “It was a fast-paced and fun game, along with Coach Kremer getting his 700th career win at Moeller.”

Moeller then faced the Sycamore Aviators. They went into this game knowing how good the Aviators were but still expecting a win. The Aviators shocked the Crusaders, ending their season with an upset loss. Despite the early loss, the Crusaders still had a great year and are looking forward to another great season next year!  The Crusaders finished 17-6 (3-3).
