Dave Filoni Takes Over Star Wars
Earlier this year Disney had announced Kathleen Kennedy stepping down as the President and Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm and revealed that Dave Filoni would be taking her place. Dave Filoni has a long list of record-breaking shows and accomplishments including being an executive producer, writer and supervising director of the 2008 Clone Wars show as well as directing eight episodes of the 2005 show ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’. The overall reaction from the Star Wars fandom has been overwhelmingly positive to this shift in leadership.
In my personal opinion, I couldn’t agree more to this shift in leadership. All of the new Disney Star Wars, in my opinion, has been heavily carried by Dave Filoni, with the most popular shows on Disney being directed by him. Most of the decisions and movies made by Disney Star Wars have been massive failures and a spit in the face of old Star Wars fans with the retconning of Legends, the creation of the sequel trilogy and the horrendous new shows like the Acolyte. With Dave Filoni finally back in charge, someone I believe is the most qualified for that position given his record of success within Star Wars, I believe we can finally return to a golden age of Star Wars.
Now with all of that said, I do still have my fears, not about Filoni, but about Disney. Disney has been constantly pushing agendas and ideals that sometimes override a show completely because it doesn’t fulfil the standards made by Disney. This has happened before where directors in Disney are railroaded by other Disney executives telling them to add or take away one thing or another. However, even with those fears, I still have faith that Dave Filoni can fix Star Wars and bring it back to its peak.
