Bring out the Brooms!!

The Moeller Crusaders bring out the brooms against the Bombers in dominating fashion.

Across all sports this year, the Crusaders have dominated Saint Xavier, and this wave did not stop in Rugby. The boys were more than ready for this game for several reasons. For one, obviously, it is Saint X, and Moeller always wants to beat the team on North Bend Road. Secondly, their game the previous week against nationally ranked Royal Irish was cancelled due to cold weather by Royal Irish. This was after the Crusaders had been on the bus for more than a hour, and they believed Royal Irish were scared, and it ignited a flame in these players.

Senior Ryan Mechley said, “After we heard they cancelled the Royal Irish game, we were furious. We wanted to put the Rugby world on notice, and that chance was ripped away from us.” With this delay, they were ready to play when Saint X came to the Coliseum. First, the U17 team beat the Bombers for the second time this year by thirty plus points. Next, A-side took a quick lead and never looked back, winning 43-7 in dominating fashion. The B-side was the last game of the day to complete the sweep.

Moeller came in very confident, probably a little too confident as they found themselves trailing most of the game. It seemed as if they were giving up, until with around ten minutes left in the game they scored, cutting it to a one score game. The Crusaders got the ball back, drove down the field, ending in an Adam Creeden super man leap for the game winning try to complete the sweep. Creeden had this to say after the game, “The animosity between the two teams was built up all game, and it felt amazing to finally put the nail in the coffin with my first try of the season.” Moeller Rugby will be back in action Tuesday April 18th against Withrow at home.
